Free Designs...

...and how to transfer them.

Can't draw free-hand? Need to transfer guide lines to the skin before doing free-hand work? Have you found a complicated pattern that you'd like to transfer to the skin as a guide before applying henna?  No problem! Any design can be transferred to the skin by using carbon paper OR "uni-ball ROLLER" roller-ball pen and a deodorant stick! I know, amazing and too good to be true but it is and...here's how:

Carbon Paper method: Use the type of carbon paper for pen/pencil line drawing, not the kind for typing.  I use ProVision, which I found at Office Depot.

ProVision Carbon Paper FOR PEN/PENCIL LINE DRAWING

Take the image you want to make a transfer out of and copy it to the back of the paper it's on by placing it on the carbon side of the carbon paper (you want carbon side up). Follow the lines of your artwork with a pen.

Trace the design    Carbon on back of design

Then put the deodorant ("Mennen Speed-Stick" type deodorant) on the skin where you want the transfer to appear, press the paper so that the carbon on the back makes good contact with the deodorant. Give the carbon time to react with the deodorant and voila! You have a transferred pattern that you can use over and over!

Apply deodorant and press transfer   Carefully peel away the transfer   Transfer complete!

Keep the original nearby incase some parts didn't get transferred so that you can use it as a visual guide for the missing parts.

Uni-ball ROLLER ball pen:  I found this one out by accident and it actually works better than the carbon paper! I printed a graphic on "recycled" paper which had writing on the opposite side done with a UNI-BALL roller ball pen #60103 in blue ink. When I transferred the graphic using the carbon paper method, the ink from the pen also got transferred! This was a pleasant surprise. Remember, if you do this and draw something free-hand that when you transfer it, it will be in REVERSE of what you draw!

I don't know what other types of ink pens will transfer, but this one works like a charm!

Anything you (or your client?) can draw, print out on a computer, or photocopy can now be transformed into a henna tattoo transfer. The possibilities for body art are limitless with this method!

This could also make a great alternative for  children who want a "tattoo" but are too young for henna (I never do children, they are incapable of sitting still long enough to let it dry and not smear it).

Here are some free designs for you to try this out on. You may have to adjust your printer settings to print out the size of the image (such as a full sized hand) that you want. If you have graphics software, that would help.

Enjoy!
